For this week’s discussion post, please analyze how a pizza (output) is made.
Follow Figure 4.1 and please list the inputs (broken into its respective parts) and then list all of the equipment, activities/tasks required.
After doing so, please break these tasks into jobs according to whether the pizza place has a competitive strategy of either low-price (Little Caesar’s) or high-value (High-end Italian restaurant).
Finally, explain how the strategy impacts the inputs.
Please follow the format below and label all parts of the work in your post. Think each part through carefully and think like a business owner. Your textbook provides support and information for you on this activity on pages 146-153 and 159-162.
Please comment on two other students’ post, providing feedback on how completely and correctly they followed Figure 4.1. This exercise is not about making pizza as much as it is about determining inputs to outputs (raw goods/ingredients to low price or high-value product/output, translating tasks into job positions (order-taking, setting delivery routes, customer service and accuracy to Front Counter Manager), and understanding how strategy informs the process (low price-counter service only).
1) Raw Inputs-what materials, ingredients, data and information are needed to make a pizza?
2) Equipment-what special equipment, facilities, and systems are needed to make a pizza and serve it to a customer?
3) Human Resources-what knowledge, skills and abilities are needed by those performing the tasks?
4) When you have compiled all the parts above, Activity – what tasks are required in the production of the output-pizza?
5) Output – what product and/or service is provided? How is the output measured?
I have used a simple pizza making example because I am more interested in having you understand the process than the product. However, you must be thorough.
6) What is the competitive advantage of your pizza restaurant, low-price or high value?
7) What jobs are required to do all the tasks of making and/or serving pizza based on the competitive advantage you identified above? List them below.
8) How will your competitive advantage impact the inputs in #1?
