Attitude and Behaviors
The Reasoned Action Theory (TRA) implies that the behavior of an individual is dictated by their determination to conduct the behavior and that, in fact, that purpose is a consequence of their attitude more toward the behavior and subjective norms. The theory also recognizes how these variables that may restrict the behavioral influence to attitude. Advertising against stem-cell research, for instance, highlighted the possibility of women selling their eggs for stem-cell research. Also, they claimed that the Missouri Constitution protected human cloning and argued that stem-cell research was unethical because it threatened a person’s existence. Consequently, according to this theory, when the attitude takes us all to negative behavior, individuals will alter their attitude to remain satisfied. Accordingly, Rational Action Theory forecasts behavior intentions, although in between, to avoid predictions of attitude and actually forecast actions since it distinguishes behavior inclination from actions.
The Balance theory explains the structure of the views of people about other people and objects, as well as the presumed relationship between them. The key principle of balance theory is that some systems are balanced between people and objects, while other structures are imbalanced. That balanced structures are typically favored over imbalanced structures. In particular, the theory of equilibrium suggests that unbalanced systems are correlated with an unpleasant feeling of negative effects and that this negative feeling leads individuals to search for balanced structures and avoid imbalanced structures. In this situation, Kelly does not accept that life starts at conception. She believes that women should be allowed to decide what their bodies are doing. Kelly plans to vote in the election to help stem cell research. At the same time, Terry thinks that life starts at conception. In this case, the theory explains that the balanced structure is when your friend still likes your choices, and the imbalanced structure is when your friend dislikes your opinion or when opinions differ. The first case makes us feel better, while the second case creates awkward stress.
The subjective perception of incompatibility between two self-relevant cognitions is known as cognitive dissonance. Any aspect of awareness, belief, attitude, value, emotion, interest, plan, or conduct can be cognitive. Cognitions, in other terms, are dissonant when a particular cognition suggests the opposite of cognition. In the case described above, Terry and Maria are more likely to encounter cognitive dissonance because they were asked to write a paper that was not compatible with their cognition. There are four types of situations in which dissonance will occur. According to Aronson (1969), the first situation was logical inconsistency second situation was inconsistency with cultural mores third situation is an inconsistency between one cognition and a more general cognition and that four situations were past experience. There is over-justification when we believe our actions to be caused by the situation, causing us to discount the degree to which our own interest in it genuinely caused our conduct. Kelly seems likely to encounter over justification in this experiment. Research indicates that while giving rewards may lead us to perform an activity more often or with more effort in certain instances, rewards may not always increase our liking for the activity. In certain situations, compensation may potentially make us less like an action than we did before we were compensated for it. Reasoned Action Model:
Some advertisements try to make salient particular aspects of a position or issue that voters are likely to find negative and mention them in conjunction with the opposition candidate. Advertisements against stem-cell research stressed danger to women selling their eggs for stem-cell research, argued that it made human cloning protected by the Missouri Constitution, and argued that stem-cell research was immoral because it destroyed human life.
Advertisements in favor of stem-cell research stressed potential cures for common diseases like diabetes, treatment of burns, Parkinson’s disease, paralysis, and so on.
How could the Reasoned Action Model be used to understand these competing advertisements? The advertisements talk about the same ballot issue but highlight different potential consequences of that amendment being passed. Kelly does not believe life begins at conception. She thinks that women should have the right to choose what happens to their bodies. She also thinks stem cell research may lead to cures for common diseases and the treatment of burns. In the coming election, Kelly plans to vote in support of stem cell research.
Terry believes life begins at conception. While he believes that life begins at conception, he will be voting in favor of stem cell research. He thinks that many more lives could be saved than lost if more stem cell research was done.
Maria also believes life begins at conception. She thinks stem cell research destroys human life. In the coming election, Maria plans to vote against stem cell research.

The same three people participate in three different conditions in an experiment. Read these, then answer the questions below.
Experimental Conditions:
• Terry believes life begins at conception. However, as part of an experiment he chose the option of writing a one-page paper arguing that life does not begin at conception. He is told the paper will not be shown to anyone outside the experiment.
• Maria also believes life begins at conception. She too chooses to write a one-page paper arguing that life does not begin at conception. Before she agrees to write the paper, she is told high school students will be required to read her paper as part of a civics class.
• Kelly does not believe life begins at conception. As part of an experiment, she chooses the option of being paid $5 to write a paper arguing life does not begin at conception.
