The purpose of this assignment is to help you to develop the skills toapplytheory to literary texts. The first step in this process is to understand the arguments or ideas contained in the theory. The second step is to re-read your chosen play in light of those theories and to see how a reading through a particular paradigm affects your understanding of the play.
Once you have understood the theory, the first question to ask is: Does this theory apply to this text (or this character, or this plot-structure)?
The next questions to ask are: What happens to the text (or character or plot-structure) when I look at it through this framework? What does an analysis look like when I view the play from an Aristotelian or Steinerean or Nietzschean perspective?
