Is globalization a new phenomenon? Why or why not?
The goal of this minor essay assignment is to demonstrate your understanding of how globalization can be theorized in the contemporary era. You must choose from one of the two essay prompts below and write an essay that directly responds to the prompt you have selected.
To satisfy the requirements for this essay, you are expected to:
Put forward a strong and relevant central argument;
Give a title to your essay that does not simply repeat the text of the essay prompt;
Use and reference at least five relevant academic sources, one of which must be on the required reading list on the learnonline course website; (note: Wikipedia, non-scholarly online sources, or textbooks should not be used for this assignment);
Critically engage with the authors you are looking at by identifying their strengths and weaknesses;
Be expositive in your writing by providing illustrative examples, where necessary;
Have an introduction that sets out what you will argue in a clear and concise fashion;
Have a conclusion that does more than merely sum up your arguments;
Stay within or near the 1,500 word target/limit;
Number all of your pages;
Submit your assignment via the learnonline course website in Microsoft Word format (unless otherwise negotiated);
Respond appropriately to the question; &
Follow the UniSA Harvard referencing style guide (https://lo.unisa.edu.au/mod/resource/view.php?id=930824) in your in-text citations and in the reference list you include at the end of your essay.
Assessment Criteria
Argument:
There is a clear argument that is relevant to the assignment
The essay displays critical thinking and analysis relevant to the essay prompt
Writing:
Uses clear and concise expression
Avoids plagiarism and excessive quoting
Uses correct spelling, punctuation, referencing and grammar
Stays near/within the word limit
Pages are numbered
Sources are referenced correctly following the UniSA Harvard referencing style.
Essay structure
The structure of the paper is logical and clear, with an introduction, body, and conclusion
Essay is given a title, which does not simply repeat the text of the essay question
Sources
Faithfully captures the points of the scholarly texts that are referenced
Engage with and reference at least five academic sources, one of which must be on the required reading list (to be found on the learnonline course website)
Cited sources are relevant to the points being made in the essay
