Market segmentation is the process of dividing a market of potential customers into groups, or segments, based on different characteristics. So this here describes why TED Talks relates to marketing. TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas. The project was originally conceived as a forum for technology, entertainment, and design (TED), but now has expanded to include topics ranging all across the human experience. These talks cover many aspects of business, marketing and motivation. As marketers, TED talks are great examples of injecting compelling narratives into abstract sets of concepts. As someone with a product to market, this skill is definitely worth getting educated in. In my opinion all three segmentation, targeting and positioning are tools to align your products with the right customers. The important idea is that every product or service offers different value for different customers. Which is what the videos on TED Talks breaks down, even though each topic is different majority seem to carry some form of all three tools. This overall website is a Market grabber, this invites people in just like a retail store would to view the product they have, and this is just a way to gain knowledge on different characteristics of others ideas.

I watched the TED Talks video by Seth Godin “How to get your ideas to spread”. His presentation really hit on market targeting. A target market is basically the group of customers or potential customers that a business has decided to pursue its marketing efforts towards, they are strategically picked out. Seth began his presentation talking about how companies use to spend a lot of money marketing their products to everyone and, for some companies it paid off they got rewarded with big sells. However over time as the world changed so did the method of marketing and it became more important to get your product out to people who were interested in your product. In return those who were interested would tell their friends about the product and, by targeting people who were interested in the product was more efficient way to market your product or service by being specific. Later on in his presentation Seth than went on to talk about how companies should be creative and get do whatever creative thing necessary to get noticed, he emphasized that if a company could somehow do something different to get noticed it was a great way to market. People never forgot things that were interesting and that would definitely make potential consumers remember your company. Basically what companies should target their specific consumer base and be creative to get noticed because getting noticed is very important.
